The Archuleta County Transfer Stations were established to provide a convenient location to dispose of limited quantities of Solid Waste and Recycling materials. However, the facilities' capabilities in handling materials are limited due to size and resources. 



SECURE ITEMS FOR TRANSPORT.
Solid waste conveyed to any facility within Archuleta County must be covered or secured in such a manner that the waste cannot be scattered upon the streets. FINES will be assessed to all uncovered or unsecured loads. 

TRANSFER STATION DISPOSAL POLICY
  • Load size is limited to 2 cubic yards (average pickup bed) per day. 
  • Large, bulky items such as furniture and appliances are not accepted at the Pagosa Transfer Station and must go to the Landfill. 
  • Dumpsters must go to the landfill.
  • Trailers 4 feet and smaller may use the Pagosa Transfer Station. 
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED AT ANY FACILITY - Because of stringent federal, state, and county regulations, the following materials cannot be accepted at Archuleta County Landfill sites:
  • Freon containing appliances without documentation of proper disposal. (Can receive a certificate at any appliance store but call them first).
  • Hazardous waste in any form: Fluorescent Lamps, Lead Acid and Rechargeable Batteries, Unwanted Medications, Etc. 
  • Liquids, Used Oil, Chemicals, Pesticides, Fuels, Anti-freeze, Household Hazardous Waste, Contaminated Soil, etc. 
  • Friable Asbestos
  • TV's, Monitors
  • Animal Carcasses 
  • Tires
  • Car Bodies, Trailers, or other Vehicles Requiring Licenses
  • Burning Trash, Hot Barrels or Ashes

Recycling

Recycling helps to reduce landfill space, conserve natural resources and keep solid waste disposal fees low. Please ensure that all materials being recycled are identified in the list below. if they are not, please dispose of them with your regular garbage or at a facility that can accept the. Prepare the recyclable materials by emptying contents, rinsing away solids and removing caps as needed in order to ensure the material can be accepted and recycled.

Archuleta County accepts the following goods for recycling at it's Pagosa Transfer station. Items must be sorted per category as shown below: 

Catagory 1.
Empty Contents. Remove lids and Caps.
NOT ACCEPTED - Plastic Bags, Planters, Food Trays or Plastics Labeled #3 through #7 (check the bottom for #).
#1 Plastics - Water or Soda Pop bottles (Clear beverage bottles). #2 Plastics - Milk and Soap / Detergent bottles. Catagory 2. Aluminum Cans - RINSE contents. CANS ONLY. Catagory 3. Tin, Steel, Almuinum Foil and Pans. Catagory 4. Paper - Newspaper (advertising inserts OK), Office paper, White Packing paper, Junk Mail. NOT ACCEPTED - Magazines, Books. Catagory 5. Courrugated Cardboard, Brown paper Bags, Brown Packing Paper and paper board (shoe boxes, boxes that hold food such as cerial, rice, crackers). Catagory 7. E-Waste. Mouse, Cell Phone, Keyboard, I-Pad, DVD Player, CPU's, Laptops, Printers, etc. NOT Accepted - TV's and Monitors. CALL AHEAD ITEMS: Paint, Tires and certain types of Electronic waste are not usually accepted. Call the Pagosa Transfer Station 970-264-3311 to confirm ability to dispose at the facility.
